Welcome to my first Inspired Words Interviews with special guest Candice Holden
I met Candice through my search for custom planner stickers. Candice owns an amazing Canadian Etsy shop called “Geeky Daisy Designs”.
Erica: Hi Candice! Please tell me about yourself and your family?
Candice: I’m Candice. I’m a wife and mother of three. I own a small planner sticker shop. And I’m still not sure what I want to be when I grow up. I am from Alberta.
Erica: What do you like to do as family and by yourself?
Candice: As a family, we like to do outdoorsy things such as play at the playground (I have a six year old). By myself, I enjoy reading and drawing and I do a lot of both.
Erica: What motivated you to start your own business? Is it your full-time job?
Candice: I think what ultimately made me choose to open a shop was being crafty. I loved to make lots of different things and wanted to share that love with others. It is not my full-time job, although I would like it to be.
Erica: Do you only use hand-drawn images in your products?
Candice: My shop consists of about 95% hand drawn or handwritten items. Occasionally, I have a little help.
Erica: What makes your business stand out from the others?
Candice: Probably the fact that it is mostly hand drawn or handwritten
Erica: What is your favourite part of owning your own business? Least favourite?
Candice: My favourite part is making my own hours. And my least is making my own hours lol
Erica: What was the very first product you designed? Do you still sell it?
Candice: Actually, the very first product I designed, I never sold. I made duct tape wallets. Lots of them. I still have a few.
Erica: Planner (s) do you use?
Candice: I use a Hobo Techno, Passion Planner, Bullet Journal, and a mini Happy Planner.
Erica: you use only your stickers when planning or do you buy from other shops/stores?
Candice: Not just mine. I do purchase from a couple other shops.
Erica: How did you get into planners/planning?
Candice: I was very naive when I started. When I first opened an Instagram account, I followed lots of planner people without really knowing what planning was. I purchased my first planner not long after.
Erica: What was your first planner?
Candice: Just a simple three ring binder with graph paper. Then a Happy Planner lol
Erica: What advice would you give to someone thinking about opening a planner/sticker business?
Candice: Find something unique, something YOU, and do it over and over again.
Thank you, Candice, for sharing some of your story!
